Wedding Season winding down

2011 has been an amazing year for weddings. I have had the honor of performing ceremonies in a variety of beautiful locations and the pleasure of working with so many wonderful couples.

My "wedding weather karma" came through once again for an entire season. None of my outdoor weddings got rained on and every weding was beautiful. I feel that I am the luckiest person alive to have such a fulfilling and enjoyable career.

Some of my favorites though are the elopement packages that I've offered to a few couples. This is a package that includes location (my 11 acres of wooded paradise in the country with the ceremony on the custom built dock of a trout pond), Officiate, custom ceremony and vows, 1 hour photography on CD (2nd photographer for during ceremony) champagne toast and beautiful decor. It turns an elopement into a dream wedding for the couple and up to 10 of their closest friends & family.

Every wedding is special and unique no matter the size or the location. I have one more ceremony this fall that I am looking forward to most of all. That will be my 15 year Vow Renewal ceremony to my wonderful husband.

On October 12, 2011, Gene and I will be renewing our vows on the beach of Maui with 12 of our closest friends. Rather than exchanging rings, we will exchange leis as we say our vows to each other.

The ceremony will be performed by my dear friend Tonya Koski of Top Hat Style Weddings in Tri-Cities, Washington. The photography will be provided by my friend Juston of CardwellPhotography.com. Hair and makeup will be done by my friend Janee', owner of Shears2You in Oregon City. Best Man and Maid of Honor will be our two best lifelong friends, Dr. Michael Coffman and Ms. Lynn Yut. My bridesmaid will be my lovely daughter, Amanda Hilton. My honorary attendants will be Janee', Stefanie, Patti, Robbie, Laura Lee and Lynette. They will all be wearing Carribean Blue.

I will be walking down the aisle to Bruno Mars, "Just the way you are" and finishing up with Colbie Callet singing "I Do".

The rest of the week I plan to relax, play and have fun. Snorkeling is my all-time favorite activity in Hawaii. I will not stress or obsess over ceremony details once we get there (hopefully) and just keep it fun and casual.

July 23rd I had the honor of performing a wedding for Christy & Peter at Youngberg Hill Vineyard in McMinnville, Oregon. Situated high up on a hilltop, the stone ceremony site overlooks the entire valley and hills. The view was amazing.

The reception dinner was served under a big tent which provided nice shade. The band played lively music that everyone enjoyed. It was a perfect day!

I am looking forward to seeing the final video captured by Focal Point Digital Media. Ryan is a true professional and creates the most beautiful wedding videos.

Oooh, another Enchanted Elopement!

From March until October, Radiant Touch weddings fills the day with beautiful and romantic elopement packages for couples in love.

This last weekend was no exception. Tami and Sulieman have maintained a long distance relationship and engagement from the United States to the Middle East, Jordan to be exact. Through the technology of Skype and mobile phones they have kept their love alive.

Last year they were able to have a ceremony of Love in the Middle East. Continuing their long distance relationship through distance and time, they were finally able to set a date for their legal U.S. marriage ceremony.

Tami and Sulieman chose Beverly Mason of The Radiant Touch for their marriage ceremony and celebration. Tami found Beverly online and inquired about an elopement ceremony. After hearing about their relationship and history, Beverly offered an exclusive elopement package that offered everything they could ever want in their special day. The date of June 11, 2011 was set. Sulieman had acquired all necessary documents and VISA to finally be with his beloved Tami.

On Saturday, June 11, 2011 Sulieman and Tami, along with Tami's daughter, mother and best friend, arrived at the country wooded setting of Radiant Touch Weddings, outside of Oregon City.

The assistant photographer, Amanda, was shooting photos as the couple met with Beverly and she filled out the certificate and other paper work. Once everyone had arrived, they proceded down to the dock on a rainbow trout pond. The beautiful 16-20 inch trout jumped out of the water to gobble up the feed thrown to them.

The ceremony proceeded as the sun broke through the clouds for a beautiful afternoon. Beverly performed a non religious ceremony which spoke of the love and commitment shared between Suleiman and Tami. After exchanging vows and rings, Tami's daughter, Madisyn, joined the couple in a Unity Sand ceremony.

After they were pronounced husband and wife, each signed the marriage certificate and had many photos taken throughout the beautiful locations on the property. Photos of the couple and their friends taken on the dock, the bridges and the sprawling green lawn captures the happiness and joy of the day.

It was a beautiful wedding ceremony and a enjoyable time had by all.

Weddings of the World Showcase

On Sunday May 15th, I had the pleasure of being a vendor at a fantastic new Wedding Showcase called Portland Weddings of the World.

The show was hosted by the Portland Sheraton Airport Hotel. Each ballroom was a different theme. There was Eastern Russia, Latina, Asian and Indian. The decor was over the top incredible.

Semper Fashion hosted the fashion show. Gorgeous models walked the runway wearing wedding gowns from around the world. The colors, styles and cultures were spectacular.
Hair and makeup was provided by Paul Mitchell the School and other local artists and stylists.

Featured Sponsors included Mega Music, Barclay Events and West Coat Drape.

I was lucky enough to be placed right next to Donna Cole of Pearl and Roses wedding planning. She is a fun and talented lady. I enjoyed spending the day with her. Paul Garcia Photography and Cakes by Design were friends of mine in the Asian Ballroom and I had a wonderful time with Annie of Floral Sunshine who provided the floral decor for the Indian ballroom.

This was the first year of this event but the turn out was amazing. Hundreds of brides and families packed the show from 1pm until closing at 5pm. This will be a "don't miss" event for years to come.

In Oregon, you rarely know what to expect from the weather. It makes planning spring weddings interesting, to say the least. There is nothing more beautiful than an outdoor wedding with hundreds of tulips and daffodils blooming all around. The crisp, clear air brings a feeling of "new beginnings" to your wedding day.

But we all know what brings those beautiful flowers... the Oregon showers. Downpours at times actually. But don't let THAT stop you! With some positive thinking the weather can easily cooperate for you and with a little pre-planning, you will be able to handle any weather. In Oregon, the chance for rain goes all the way through the summer also, so be prepared.

Tips:

Reserve a tent from a rental company. They will help you figure the size needed to accommodate your guests, tables, food, DJ and even a dance floor. A tent is wonderful no matter what the weather. It protects from rain, wind and even blistering heat.

Have umbrellas on hand for guests and bridal party.

Don't wear spiked heels, try a wedge or square heel. You don't want to be sinking in soft ground.

Tons of Fun can be had once everyone just "lets go" and cuts loose. No more worries about hair, make-up, and looking perfect. Just have fun. It can make for some memorable photos too.

So go ahead and plan that outdoor wedding. It will be special, memorable and fun no matter what the weather does.

What does 2010 have in store for me?

I am at a point in life and in business where I'm not sure where things are leading me. I also follow my instincts and inspirations to see where they may lead. That is what got me to THIS point. My career as a wedding minister lead me to starting a Wedding professionals Networking Group, which lead me to producing Bridal Fairs which led me to Wedding Workbook as an account executive. PLUS, I have also built 8 websites which I manage along with all of the social networking and optimizing that goes with that responsibility.

Before I knew it, I have such a diverse and FULL plate, that it's time to make some decisions. Do I venture out into one of these new avenues which are leading to bigger projects and futures or do I scale back and simply choose one?

I love performing wedding and meeting brides but it is a career that has no growth potential because there is such a limit on available weekends and income to be made. The Bridal Fairs have great potential and i love to plan & coordinate big events.

The Wedding Workbook offers a flexible, good paying position but I don't feel that I can dedicate enough time to it and I've never been a good salesperson. I LOVE marketing and helping businesses but I don't like "selling".

I am no longer enjoying the benefits of being self employed when it comes to spending time with my family. Now I never seem to have time for them either. My original vision of being self employed was with plenty of time to enjoy my children's youth and company of my loving husband. How did I let that slip through the cracks?

I'll think on this a bit more, then pull out the old crayons and start "drawing the line". I must learn to say "I'm sorry, but no", and stop trying to help or please EVERYONE. Selective choices is going to be my new motto.

Bring JOY back to my work and life. Fulfillment rather than Exhaustion.

Welcoming the New Year!

2009 was a challenging, yet very rewarding year for me. I had the pleasure of performing 87 weddings all over the Northwest. I photographed 5 beautiful weddings. I traveled to Austin Texas to perform a wedding. I completed a project for Clackamas County Tourism & Cultural Affairs Department to promote the wedding industry in Clackamas County. I celebrated my Anniversary with my wonderful husband on my favorite island of Maui. I formed many new friendships in 2009 and strengthened many more old relationships. Over all, I would say 2009 was a good year. Perhaps not economically, but certainly personally.

That is why I am looking forward to what 2010 may bring! It is off to such a fast start. First off, January has many weddings and consultations booked. That's always a good sign.

What is keeping me the busiest right now is planning, organizing and promoting a BRIDAL FAIR!

The network group that I formed last year, NW Wed Pro, is holding a Bridal Fair on Feb. 6-7 at Willamette Valley Country Club. It's such a beautiful venue too. Yes, there are other shows this winter, but unless you actually LIKE being in a huge warehouse type space, packed with thousands of people shoving and fighting for position just to reach in and grab a card off a table of a vendor that is way over priced..... you will love our Bridal fair. In a beautiful setting, affordable professionals for all of your wedding needs will be ready to meet and chat with you, show you their services and discuss your wants. There will be food and wine to sample, music to listen to, demonstrations, prizes and give aways.

Our vendors don't have to pay huge booth fees, so they don't have to pass the expense on to you. Entry into the fair is only $2. All proceeds will be donated to Clackamas Women's Services for helping victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

WOW, here I thought with the current economic situation, weddings might slow down. Boy was I wrong. I guess if there is one thing that the economy can't affect, it's gotta be LOVE! People are still going to fall in love and eventually get married.

Perhaps elopements are the answer for many. That doesn't mean running to a courthouse for a sterile, ugly, 30 second legal ceremony though.

An elopement can be short notice, or planned out. It can be just the 2 of you and 2 witnesses, or it can be some of your closest friends and family. It can be at a home, park, waterfall, restaurant, balcony, viewpoint, historical landmark,.... you name it.

The words can still be personal, meaningful and heartfelt. Save thousands of dollars, but it can still be the most beautiful moment in your life.

But 2009 has still had it's full share of traditional weddings too! I have been performing 3-5 weddings per week since June. It's not slowing up until October either!

I love wedding season. I meet the sweetest people in the world. Not just the newlyweds, but also their families and friends as well. I have performed in such beautiful locations and venues this year also. I love seeing so much that I've missed out on for years.

Brides Against Breast Cancer

Last January of 2008 I had the honor of volunteering at the Brides Against Breast Cancer / Making Memories Gown sale in Portland. I had never been to one of these sales and could never volunteer because of my work schedule before. This year since I am self employed and work my own schedule, I had the opportunity to work the set up days and also one weekend day of the sale.
I must say, it's hard work. You know how heavy ONE wedding gown is...well, try carrying 4-6 at a time! Nearly 6,000 gowns get off loaded. We sort, inspect, hang and tag the best 2,000 or so for the sale. Three days of this and the SALE is ON! Brides come from all over the State for the opportunity to buy a gorgeous designer gown for less than half the price of retail.
Every style of gown imaginable is there. Huge dressing rooms for trying on, full length mirrors, volunteers to help zip, hang up, find sizes, pick slips and veils out, everyone is friendly and patient too. Most people imagine it to be one of those vicious, fighting over dresses, cat fight sales, but it really isn't.
If you are a bride or know a soon to be bride, be sure to visit the sale when it comes to your State. If you are a wedding professional or just a person who cares, please volunteer to work the sale.
The two women who run the show are amazing. They work 16 hour days, eat, catch a few hours sleep and are right back at it. Unlike the volunteers, they don't stop when the sale is over. they have to pack up and move on to the next sale.
